Finally the Jr. Cubs win thanks in part to the timely batting and inspirational yelling from catcher Chris Robinson. Thankfully, my roommate RHP Chris Carpenter is well after taking a Willy-Mo Pena one-hopper off the side of his head last night. The wily (NPI seriously) topspin ripped the bottom of his ear from his face. The ball ricocheted past our SS into left field. Chris staggered and eventually fell while Reno Aces ran wild around the bases. The PA staff thought it’d be a good time to play the upbeat music which usually accompanies home team RBI while Chris was writhing in pain in front of the mound. In the dugout we wondered where all the blood was coming from, hoping for a gash. Feeling the vibes, the lead heckler next to our dugout began a Willy-Mo chant which remained naked as no other fans supported. Justice is a roulette? You win some, you loose some.
The house duo at Roxy’s dinner lounge plays Lou Rawls and the singer ad-libs “when its cold in Reno”, you’ll be missing (his) love. He’s convincing even with a drum machine. Now ‘amore’— “feel free to sing”, he says. I’ll put this thing away and sway, something like a tip. Some gratuities are free.
